• Wednesday 24 September 2025 Super Swimmer Adam Whitehead Visits Mount Nod 🏊♂️ Guess who made a splash at our school yesterday? Olympic swimmer Adam Whitehead brought his Commonwealth Games gold medal and shared some amazing stories! 🥇Our students were mesmerized as this Coventry-born champion shared his journey of determination and success. Even our teachers got in on the action with a (slightly less professional) swimming race! 😄But it wasn't all fun and games - Adam shared crucial water safety lessons that could save lives. 💦 Did you know? Just 6 inches of water can be dangerous, making swimming skills super important!The highlight? We are teaming up with Clubs Complete to provide a wider variety of extra-curricular clubs after school 🎨🎭🎶🌿🧪🧑🏻🍳There is a fantastic range of clubs to choose from and this is where we need your help! To ensure that our pupils are provided with the clubs they want to attend the most, Clubs Complete has designed a very short survey for parents. • Friday 11 July 2025 Year 4 Sleepover Year 4 had a fun-filled, sleepless, sleepover last night! They played games, ate ice-lollies, celebrated a birthday with cake and candles, had cookies and drinks and then stayed awake most of the night!! Today, in between yawns, they have tried archery, boules and rounders although due to the intense heat we have had to do some more activities indoors. Thank you to the teachers who gave up their evening/night/early morning to make the sleepover possible! We hope you all catch up on some much needed rest over the weekend!

We have had a jam-packed week at Mount Nod with our Year 6 pupils returning from their residential trip to Dol-Y-Moch, Year 1/2 out on trips to the British Motor Museum and an animal farm, as well as sports days for Nursery and all the year groups across school. The support from parents and grandparents on trips and for the sporting events this week has been phenomenal as always. Thank you! • Monday 2 June 2025 Reading Picnic Cancellation Dear Parents/Carers,The Reading Picnic planned for this Thursday looks like it is going to be a rained off with 90% chance of rain during the afternoon ⛈️☔For this reason, we have taken the decision to cancel it this week. By giving plenty of notice, we are now hoping to transfer the picnic date to the following Thursday, on June 12th.Tickets are available at £1 per adult. • Monday 12 May 2025 Year 6 SATs This week our brilliant Year 6 pupils will be sitting their KS2 SATs. The papers will test them on what they have learned from Years 3,4,5 and 6.We know how hard they have been working and that this is their chance to show off just how amazing they are 🤩Breakfast club will be on each morning to fuel their brains 🥐🍌🧃and they will have lots of staff on hand to support them if they are worried.We know that these tests are only a small measure of what our pupils can do. They do not recognise what fantastic sports people, musicians, scientists, artists, councillors, linguists, computer technicians or designers they are. They do not measure what good friends they can be or how kind, helpful, polite and respectful they are. We see all of that in school every day and we couldn't be prouder!So Year 6, try your best, do what you can and remember that these tests are not everything. • Thursday 8 May 2025 VE Day! Today we marked the 80th Anniversary of VE Day in school with a special assembly and a two minute silence as a mark of respect. The children heard Vera Lynn songs and what a air raid siren sounded like. They learned about why the end of World War Two was such an historic and jubilant occasion and saw pictures of how people celebrated in Coventry 80 years ago.This evening, in Broadgate in the city centre there is a FREE street party and entertainment between 7pm to 9.40pm, to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.This free, family-friendly event will feature live entertainment, a big screen, and plenty of nostalgic fun.Get ready for an evening of performances, vintage music, Bhangra dance and moving tributes, before the lighting of the beacon to honour the past.Those attending are invited to attend in 1940's style dress and are welcome to bring picnics and drinks to enjoy throughout the event.To find out more visit https://www.coventry.gov.uk/events/even

• Friday 11 April 2025 Happy Easter! What a lovely end to the Spring Term today! We had a super Easter bonnet parade from our lovely Reception class and had a special Easter Assembly with lots of singing. We're sure you'll agree that our readers did a brilliant job of conducting the assembly, so a big well done and thank you goes out to them. We always admire anyone brave enough to stand up and speak in front of a packed hall! Also a big thank you to family and friends who came to join in the celebrations - it is always great to see so many smiling faces. We wish you all a very happy and restful Easter .

• Tuesday 8 April 2025 Easter Assembly and Bonnet Parade On Friday Mount Nod Primary will be celebrating with our traditional assembly to celebrate Easter and the start of our Spring two-week holiday. Children from the Reception class will be parading their newly decorated bonnets while the rest of the school will be singing songs in their year phases.Please be aware this is a popular event and seats are limited due to the whole school being in the hall. Because of this, we recommend you avoid bringing in large pushchairs if possible, or please leave them by the hall door entrance as an alternative.We are planning to start at 9:15am. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and promoting acceptance, inclusion, and support for individuals with autism. This day is an opportunity to educate our pupils about the challenges and strengths of those on the autism spectrum, to celebrate the contributions of individuals with autism, and to advocate for greater understanding and acceptance within society.

• Friday 21 March 2025 Year 3/4 Explore Coventry! On Tuesday, our Year 3/4 children visited Coventry as part of their geography theme. They explored ruins and gatehouses of the medieval walls that have surrounded the city since 1534, became secret agents and followed clues around the city centre to find out amazing facts about how the city has developed and also visited the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, to marvel at how the city has grown and changed since it's beginnings in 700AD. • Friday 14 March 2025 Aaron Ashmore Visit! This week we had a wonderful visit from local author Aaron Ashmore, who talked about his love of Coventry, the books he has written and his top tips for being an author. He read his first book, Lady Godiva's Birthday Suit to the school, shared his other books with us and answered lots of questions too. The children (and staff) were not only inspired by his incredible writing but by his love of Coventry city! He spoke passionately about how proud we should all be of our city with it's rich history, vibrant music scene, great sporting teams and innovation. Aaron then held a special Q&A session with our Year 3/4 children as part of their theme on Coventry and they asked him some brilliant questions. Everyone in the school was buzzing for the rest of the day and cannot wait for Aaron to visit again when he releases his next book! 📖Lots of children asked if they could order his books on the day, as they hadn't done so before. • Thursday 13 March 2025 Polite Reminder - No Dogs on Site Good morning. Just a polite reminder that dogs are not allowed on site, especially on our busy playgrounds. This is not a new rule, as we have had this in place for many years but we have noticed an increasing amount of people bringing dogs in each day. Although we are a dog loving school, we have a duty of care to protect our pupils and families who may not feel the same way. We appreciate that we now have a school dog but to allow this to happen we have had to apply for special therapy dog insurance, ensure he is well trained to be around large groups of children and that he is a hypo-allergenic breed.The primary reason we ask for dogs not to be allowed on site (with the exception of guide dogs and assistance dogs) is to ensure the safety of children, as dogs can be unpredictable and potentially dangerous, especially in a crowded, noisy environment with many children running around.In addition, some children and parents may have allergies to dogs or have a phobia of dogs, so keeping
• Monday 10 March 2025 Petition for a Crossing on Alderminster Road One of our parent's has recently met with a local councillor to set up a petition for a crossing to be built on Alderminster Road, to make it safer for people to cross and encourage walking to school. We are grateful for this action and would welcome any initiative that makes the children in our community safer. • Thursday 6 March 2025 Coventry Inspiration Book Awards Coventry Inspiration Book AwardsOn Tuesday, children from year 5/6 took part in a quiz with other schools in Coventry. The children had been chosen to take part in the Coventry Inspiration book challenge and had spent weeks reading 8 books and discussing them in school. There were two teams taking part and they had 60 questions to answer over 6 rounds. What fantastic news that the children came third overall. We are so proud of their efforts. Well done Anna, Grace, Abiel, Archie, Jamal, Nancy, Polina, Max and Jessica.
• Thursday 6 March 2025 World Book Day 2025 Everyone at Mount Nod had a fabulous World Book day, where we promoted reading and shared a love of books. The children took part in a national online quiz with authors and football stars, swapped classes to read with older/younger children, had a special assembly with Miss Smith, won prizes for the 20 Day book challenge, designed book characters, wrote book reviews, played reading games, had a library treasure hunt and lots more! As always, the staff and children looked great in their favourite book character outfits. A big thank you to parents and carers who helped get all the fabulous costumes ready!
• Friday 28 February 2025 World Book Day 2025 Next Thursday we are celebrating World Book Day. If your child/children wish to, they can come to school dressed as a book character on that day. We will be having a whole day of celebrating books and taking part in various reading activities. We know it will be an enjoyable day!

• Thursday 13 February 2025 World Book Day 20 Day Challenge Dear Parents/Carers,Hopefully, this week you will have seen your child come home with a World Book day 20-day reading challenge card. The idea is that the children are challenged to read for at least 10 minutes everyday for 20 days. On World Book Day, Thursday March 6th, all children who manage to complete the challenge can enter their card into a prize draw. We will have a range of fantastic prizes that the children can have a chance of winning.As parents, all you need to do is hear your child read for at least 10minutes and sign the card each time. When completed, hand the card to the teachers BEFORE World Book Day.Reading is incredibly important for children and good readers benefit from understanding more about the other subjects in our curriculum. Research shows that not only can reading benefit a child’s education but it can also help social and cognitive development, their wellbeing and their mental health. What's there not to like?

This week at Mount Nod, we will be learning about how to use the internet safely, respectfully and responsibly. However, we recognise that children will be online far more at home than they are at school and that sometimes this time may be unsupervised. Therefore, we have a dedicated section on our school website to support internet safety at home. • Friday 17 January 2025 Rotary Club Young Musician Competition We are incredibly proud of Tommy and Daisy, who performed brilliantly at the annual Rotary Club Young Musician Competition. They were the only primary aged children there and did themselves and Mount Nod proud!
• Friday 17 January 2025 Star of the Week Well done to our amazing Stars of the Week. There were lots of whole class awards today, which shows just how many stars we have to choose from each week and how hard it is to choose just one or two! We also had some pen license certificates awarded, as well as caught being good prizes. It was a great first Star of the Week assembly for 2025 and we look forward to celebrating more stars this term. Thank you as always to family and friends who were able to help us celebrate today. • Friday 10 January 2025 Attendance Awards Today we had a special assembly to award exceptional attendance in the Autumn Term. Almost 60 pupils achieved 100% attendance which is quite remarkable considering all the colds, flu and bugs that were circulating last term!
• Friday 20 December 2024 Goodbye Mrs Guest Today wasn't just a fun day to celebrate Christmas with our pupils at the end of term, it was also a very special day to celebrate the wonderful Mrs Guest, who is leaving us after 20 years of supporting the children, families and staff at Mount Nod. Mrs Guest has been a familiar face at the school gates each day, welcoming the children in to school and has been a huge part of life at Mount Nod. She has nurtured and supported countless children on their journey through our school and our pupils gave her a lovely send off today in our assembly for her. We will all miss her very much and am sure that you join us in wishing her the very best of luck in this next chapter of her life. Bon voyage and good luck Mrs Guest, from us all at Mount Nod.
• Friday 20 December 2024 Carols on the Green We would like to say a huge thank you to family, friends and local residents who supported our Reception and Year 6 children at the Mount Nod 'Carols on the Green' carol concert yesterday evening in aid of Archie's Smile. It was a wonderful evening . The children started on Tudor Avenue and made their way down to the One Stop on Alderminster Road singing songs, dancing and smiling all the way! Aman from the One Stop kindly gave a drink to every child and the One Stop and the Round Table generously donated £200! Added to the collection from family and local residents, the children managed to raise a whopping £338.36 which will go directly to the Archie's Smile charity. Again, we cannot express our thanks enough to you all for making this event such a magical community experience and for really getting everyone into the Christmas spirit!

• Friday 6 December 2024 Christmas Raffle We will be having a Christmas raffle in school with the chance of winning some great prizes. Included are these fantastic ‘Elf on a Shelf’ donated by Roxanne Naisbett from Sustainable Building Services. Tickets will go on sale next week at 20p a ticket. • Thursday 5 December 2024 Pantomime Comes to Mount Nod! Pantomime in schoolIt is lovely and Christmassy in school at the moment with all the decorations up around the classrooms . Next week we will really be in the Christmas spirit when we have the pantomime in school “Oh no we haven’t”"OH YES WE HAVE!"The actors will be coming in on Tuesday morning to do two performances. The first to Nursery, reception and KS1 and then another to KS2. We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £3. The office have set it up on School Gateway for you to make a cashless payment. • Sunday 10 November 2024 Remembrance Day Remembrance Day (also called Armistice Day or Poppy Day) is a memorial day held in Commonwealth countries, such as the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. Remembrance Day is all about commemorating those who have died serving their country in the armed forces. It also honours and supports veterans of combat.
• Thursday 7 November 2024 Remembrance Day Remembrance Day will be marked at Mount Nod Primary School with a special assembly and a one minute silence on Monday 11th November. We will remember the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict. In school, we teach that Remembrance does not glorify war but that the red poppy, is a sign of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. Tomorrow, there will be snaps bands and other items on sale in school for a contribution of £1 which will be sent directly to the Royal British Legion. • Friday 27 September 2024 Leave of Absence Forms At Mount Nod School we value the attendance of all pupils. There is a strong relationship between good school attendance and achieving positive outcomes for children. It is recognised that attending school regularly can be a protective factor for children and young people. It is important that as a school we offer a safe environment, positive relationships, high quality teaching and learning opportunities to develop social and emotional skills. Ensuring that children attend school every day will help achieve this ambition by maximising their education and social achievements as well as developing self-discipline, organisation and preparedness for the work environment. Improving attendance and reducing absence, especially persistent absence is a priority for our school and Coventry City Council.

• Friday 20 September 2024 Make, Bake or Donate Appeal for cakesPlease send in cakes from Monday 23rd September to Monday 30th September to help support our traditional Macmillan ‘Tea and Cakes’ afternoon. If you have a spare minute or two to do some baking or can buy some cakes and send them in, we would be very grateful. Please can you avoid products that contain nuts as we have a number of pupils in school who have nut allergies.All money raised will be given to the Macmillan Charity. If you are unable to attend one of the events that will be taking place on the 25th September to 30th September, there may be cakes left over that children could buy in school on Tuesday 1st October at 50p each. This is a lovely way to contribute and help us raise money for this very worthy charity.The letters have gone out for you to book places at our Macmillan Afternoons so please book the number of seats required and send it back to us as soon as you can.Thank you for your continued support

• Friday 13 September 2024 Stars of the Week We've had a wonderful end to the week at Mount Nod, celebrating the amazing accomplishments of our pupils in our Star of the Week assembly. Today we had some super awards given for hard work, enthusiasm, being kind and making a great start to the year. We also had 11 pupils who received a 100% attendance certificate as they didn't miss one day of school last year! Wow - that's impressive!As always, it was lovely to see so many proud parents, friends and family attending the assembly too. • Friday 13 September 2024 MacMillan Coffee and Cake Afternoons As a charity close to our hearts, we will raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support, by hosting our annual MacMillan Coffee and Cake afternoons at school this month. We invite parents, grandparents, family and friends into school to have tea/coffee and cake with the children and help raise vital funds for this incredible charity. Due to the huge popularity of this event, we have arranged separate afternoons for each year group. Letters will soon be coming home so that you can book seats, but here are the dates in advance:
